Thanks for posting this. I did the 98 CCC and just barely snuck in before the final 26 hr cutoff (24:26). Upon finishing that, I thought I'd never be able to finish the 166km race. But this is such a great event that I'm going to train like mad and go back next year. Your report was just what I needed to get out the door and start training for next August's race.

This race report made my afternoon much brighter! Thanks for sharing the incredible experience. My favorite is the St. Gervais aid station. It must be some experience to come out of the darkness and into that type of atmosphere on the trail.

Thanks again!

Hi Susan

I made time at lunchtime today to read your report.

What a great read and congratulations on an excellent run. You both did very well to complete such a tough route.

Having just run the Hardmoors it made me realise it was 'easy' compared to your race.

So well done and thanks for taking the time to write your story so fully.

PS. If you ever end up with fizzy stuff in your camelbac again, just invert it and open the nozzle. Easier than messing about with the filler cap.

Hi Susan, I've only just got round to reading your report and I really enjoyed it. An excellent effort and a great bit of writing.

Only thing I'm curious about though is whether you really were close to being timed out at the last check point or was that just a case of the brain not working after so many hours without sleep?

Thank you! Even finding ourselves faced with potentially dire consequences after 24 hours of tough running, the sparkling water debacle was hilarious. Just when you think you've made every mistake in the book...

Great report and fantastic photos. I didn't find the poles too much bother, but then again I was using a pair! :-)

I'll certainly be back for more after my first attempt this year. You might fancy readng the 'ultra tartan army on tour' report of the race on my blog.

Cheers.
