Snow Day

Wonderland.

It snowed in grand style this weekend, at least what’s considered “grand” for my part of Tennessee.  We just don’t get snow much anymore so it’s hard to resist running out to play in it.

Testing the Yaktrax for next weekend.

There weren’t many incentives to drive anywhere in what surely must be a traffic nightmare and since my one-in-a-million local Subaru dealer had been so kind as to give me a brand-new Outback off the lot with only 375 miles on it and not a micron of dirt inside, I somehow wasn’t in the mood to take the insurance gamble when the odds were most assuredly not in my favor.

So we took the opportunity to run “my” trail – the North Ridge Trail that runs, not surprisingly, along the side of the north ridge of my town.  My 10-hour day work schedule makes it harder to squeeze in a decent run on it between daylight savings time and bug season.  But really, Idon’t run here as much as I used to (or should) because it seems empty without Maggie.  Rob gave me the incentive to get out there and I’m grateful – we may not see this much photographic snow on the trail for years to come.

Snowing, even as we start.

We didn’t run long but we didn’t have to because the real mission was to soak up the scenery, and wow was it worth it.  I hope everyone got out sometime this weekend and enjoyed the day, whether it was rainy, snowy, or just plain perfect!

It looks like a fairytale wood.

Love that soft downhill. A good day to fall.

Nearby creek crossing. No crawdads today.

Rob stretching (yes, those are actually Handwarmers in his hands).

Somebody else has been out here.

My feet may be cold but they don't have to be wet and cold.

Unexpected meeting at the trail junction.

Camera flash...maybe, but no headlamps.

Dodging a determined plow on the way home.

Yaktrax off, Yaktrax on.
