How to Guarantee Your Best Year Ever

If an expert could give you a custom, personalized improvement plan built specifically for you that was 100% guaranteed to improve your ultrarunning, wouldn’t you want that?

Of course you would.

And you can absolutely get that - right now.

Because you're the expert and you already have everything you need to create that plan for the new year.

Like most runners, you probably promised yourself that this year, you’ll put more effort into training - run more, faster, and harder miles.

Or add strength training or yoga.

Or dial in your diet.

Or switch to the latest gel everyone’s raving about.

These are great but if I ask you why you’re doing them and you say, “I just think I should,” or “I think they would make a difference,” it tells me the decision isn’t deliberate. You can’t point to why you’re making that change.

And you may not know. You may have been influenced by what others say worked for them.

Which is a problem because if you change your training or races without knowing why you’re doing it, you might be getting rid of something that worked or working harder at something that didn’t. In other words, you could be making things worse without knowing it.

And you can easily miss things you do need to change.

But here’s a secret: the fastest, most reliable way to improve is hidden in your own results.

What you need to do is look at your races from the past year, identify the things that didn’t work, and decide how you want to do them differently.

It works because you have to fix what isn’t working to be able to improve. And you don’t know what isn’t working if you don’t evaluate your races.

I get it. It’s not as fun looking back as it is looking at the races ahead, but this is the fastest way to improve.

You have to be willing to face mistakes, imperfect races, and DNFs you’d rather forget to look critically at your races. That may be especially challenging if there was a lot you think you should have done better.

In each race, you need to find what worked and is worth repeating, along with what didn’t work and what you’d do differently in your next race.

I make this easy for my clients by walking them through the process. They don’t have to do it alone, I spot things they miss, and I help them decide what to do differently.

However you do it, you’ll race better this coming year if you evaluate the past year’s races and what you need to do differently. Guaranteed.

You won’t make the same mistakes again.

You’ll spot patterns you might not have seen otherwise.

You’ll know why you’re changing something and what you expect from the change, so you can tell if it worked.

You’ll build confidence from seeing how much you did well.

You’ll know yourself better than you did this time last year.

You’ll start the new year improving over last year.

And you can keep improving like this from race to race, all year long.

Using your inside knowledge about your own races to make changes is guaranteed to improve your running.

It will pay off in your best year yet.
